History: | "Native name published by Lieutenant Sarichev (1826, map 16), Imperial Russian Navy (IRN), as ""M(ys) Chiniatskiy,"" or ""Cape Chiniat,"" and by the Russian-American Company as ""M(ys) Chiniakskiy,"" or ""Cape Chiniak,"" in 1849. The U.S. Navy Hydrographic Office in 1869 called this feature ""Tuniak Point (Tchineyak);"" it was later changed to ""Cape Chiniak"" by U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS)." |
